Staff Report
Anthony Caporuscio has broken the Pennsylvania state record for goals – with an entire season to play.
The uncommitted Crestwood 2020 attackman scored seven goals today in a 20-5 rout of visiting Lewisburg in a PIAA Class AA opener that began Tuesday and was rained out Wednesday before being finished today at Crestwood.
That gave Caporuscio 105 goals this year and 310 overall, besting the mark of Matt Fedorjaka – ironically, who played foe Lewisburg – set from 2013 to 2016.
Caporuscio actually broke the record Tuesday when Crestwood (17-5) bolted to an 8-0 lead in the first period before a lightning postponement. Caporuscio scored early in the game to give him 304 goals and had three before the game was called.
Caporuscio has achieved this mark despite missing more than three games with a broken bone in his foot. He has surgery tentatively scheduled next week for the injury that he has played through all season (suffered during the football season).
Crestwood advanced to the state quarterfinals for the third straight year. The Comets will play Lancaster Country Day, a 13-9 winner over Cardinal O’Hara, Saturday in the quarters at a site and time to be determined.
Wyatt Malia had six goals and four assists for Crestwood. T.J. Kulak had three goals and three assists and Sean Murphy had three goals and two assists.
Crestwood and Lewisburg were the only teams to play today – finishing the game at 1 p.m., before another round of storms came.
