From Press Release

Head coach Frank Fedorjaka announced the Bucknell men’s lacrosse team’s 16-man incoming freshman class.

“I am very excited for this group of young men to join our program this fall,” Fedorjaka said. “These 16 student-athletes are very talented and have achieved considerable success on the field and in the classroom.”

The incoming freshman class is balanced, featuring four midfielders, four defensemen, three attackers, three faceoff specialists, one goalie and one defenseman/long-stick defensive midfielder. The class is also geographically diverse; the student-athletes hail from an impressive nine different states: California (3), Connecticut (2), Maryland (2), New Jersey (2), New York (2), Pennsylvania (2), Missouri, New Hampshire and Texas.

“With the graduation of 12 seniors for the second-straight year, we were looking to bring in talent at all positions,” Fedorjaka said. “This is the largest class that I can remember bringing in since 1992. This class is diverse with talent at every position.”

The Bison went 6-9 (4-4 Patriot League) in 2019, closing the regular-season on a four-game winning streak to clinch their 13th Patriot League Tournament berth in the past 15 seasons. Bucknell graduated 12 seniors following that campaign, including four-year starting goalie Christian Klipstein and four-year primary faceoff specialist Jarett Witzal. In addition, the Bison will need to replace their top midfield line of Ryan Durkin, Reed Malas and Tom Smith.

The year before, Bucknell finished 11-4 overall, was ranked as high as 10th nationally and captured a share of the Patriot League regular-season title by going 7-1 in conference action. Following that season, the Bison lost their three starting attackers and three starting defenders to graduation; that decorated group included USILA All-Americans Will Sands and Sean O’Brien and three-time All-Patriot League honoree Matt Gilray. Sands was one of the most prolific offensive threats in program history, becoming only the third Bison to reach the 200-point plateau and graduating as the school record holder in career assists (141).

For the 2020 campaign, the Bison return their three 2019 All-Patriot League honorees in attacker Will Yorke, the team’s 2019 soaring leader with 45 points, and defenders Bryant Boswell and Conor Shears. In addition, Bucknell returns attackers Tommy Sopko and Alston Tarry, who finished second and third among Bison in 2019 point production.
