The Immaculata women’s lacrosse team furthered a few team records and set some individual records as the Mighty Macs defeated visiting Hood, 16-12, on Thursday afternoon in their regular season finale. The Mighty Macs have a team record 13 wins against just three losses, and have now won nine games in a row, also a team record.
Senior Hannah Verrecchia (Great Valley), after setting the all-time goals scored record with her 171st in Monday’s win, now holds the most points in program history with 228 with two goals and three assists, passing the former mark of 225 by Danielle Lopez.
Sophomore Layne Kennedy (Garnet Valley) had five points with four goals and one assist and now has scored 61 this season, the most in a single season in school history.
Senior Brittany Whaley (Ridley) scored six goals to lead the Mighty Macs while four others scored once.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The entire first half was played within three goals. Senior Olivia Carter (St. Basil Academy) scored her 14th of the season on a low free position shot to get the scoring started, and seniors Nicole Dominick (Academy Park) and Rosemarie Reitman (Academy Park) each scored in the opening 11 minutes as well, but Hood matched them to tie it 3-3 at midway through the period
-Whaley and Kennedy each scored to put the Macs up two, but the Blazers scored two of their own to tie it up at 5-5, and the score would again be tied 6-6 with 8:46 to go before the half
-The Macs hen ripped off three straight by Whaley, Kennedy, and Verrecchia’s record-setting goal to help IU go to the locker room up 9-7
-Kennedy scored the first two goals of the second half, including her record setting 61st of the season and the Macs had an 11-7 lead.
-Hood got within three at 13-10, but three straight by Verrecchia and two by Whaley put the Macs comfortably in front at 16-10 with 3:42 to go on their way to the victory
TEAM COMPARISON
-IU held a narrow lead in shots, 34-28, and groundballs, 25-22
-The Macs had a huge advantage in clears which led to many opportunities. The Macs cleared it successfully 12-of-15 times, including the first 11 times, while Hood struggled to the tune of 8-for-24
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
-Goals: Whaley 6, Kennedy 4, Verrecchia 2
-Assists: Verrecchia 3, Dominick 2
-Points: Whaley 6, Kennedy/Verrecchia 5, Dominick 3
-Sophomore Kelly McNally led with five groundballs, and sophomore Anna DiDonato caused a team-high four turnovers
-Junior Lex Goerlach improved to 9-0 in the cage with eight saves

The Mighty Macs will compete in the CSAC Quarterfinals as the No. 3 seed, hosting the No. 6 Gwynedd Mercy Griffins on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Draper Walsh Stadium
