Shipley’s Josh Gallia scored man-down in overtime over Central Bucks East to win the BTL Fall League Championship and take home the 2018 Pete Ortale Memorial Trophy.
To get to the championship, Shipley first had to topple a tough game with Owen J Roberts. The game was a back and forth affair that took a couple of late goals by Randall Brown and Jake Olejniczak to seal the victory.
In the other semifinal, 2 time defending fall league champ CB East outdueled a tough Downingtown East squad.
In the championship game, CB East set the pace in the first half which ended with the Patriots leading 4-1. In the second half, Shipley seized the momentum in large part due to face off dominance by Jake McCarthy. Goals by Brown (2), Olejniczak and Braeden Lange allowed Shipley to fight back and take the lead 5-4 with 2 minutes to go.
CB East, however, went back on the attack and tied the game with under a minute to go. A foul by Shipley as time ran out in regulation set the table for CB East to start OT man-up for one minute. As CB East worked the ball around, a heady play by Randall Brown to pounce on a momentary loose ball lead to a fast break. Just past the midfield line, Brown spotted Josh Gallia slipping in behind the CB East defense. He gunned a 30 yard bullet pass to Gallia who walked in one on none and slipped the ball past East’s goalie for the OT victory.
