This is one of a series of previews for the 2018 Philly lacrosse season
Plymouth Whitemarsh High School
League: Suburban One American Conference
Head Coach: Ellen Reilly, 26 years
Last year’s record: 7-10 overall, 5-4 league
Key loses: Cate Golden, defense, American University; Sam Ward, defense
Key returnees: “The core of our team is back from last season.”
Seniors – Victoria Betterly, Ali Diamond, Meghan Ely, Sophie Kolkka, Sarah Putsch
Juniors – Lilly Hanlon, Lexi Petrakis, Kennedy Reardon, Jess Marqulies, Haley Zygmunt
Sophomores – Raquel Baskin, Amanda Fineman, Callie Kolkka, Lucy Sullivan
Others to watch: “We have some freshmen who are competing to earn a spot. They have played youth lacrosse and are showing great promise.”
Coach’s outlook: “Our excitement was high last year and we had several key injuries to players early in the season that effected our team. By the time we regrouped without those players, it was too late to compete for our league and playoffs. However, the girls did respond to win 7 of our last 8 games. This season we will take one game at a time and take every opportunity to make that game successful.”
North Penn High School
League: Suburban One conference
Coach: Heather Mellow, 4th season as head coach
Last year’s record: 7-11
Key returnees: Bri O’Donnell (sr, A/M), Kelly Macnamera (sr, A)
Coach’s outlook: “We are very excited to get our 2018 season underway. Coming off of a season where we had a lot of close losses to some good teams, we are looking to improve upon that by playing more consistently and finishing strong.”
