Philly girls’ HS previews: Catholic Academies’ Sacred Heart, Merion Mercy

This is one of a series of previews for the 2018 Philly lacrosse season

Sacred Heart Academy

League: AACA

Coach: Sarah O’Doherty (1st year)

Last year’s record: 9-9 finished 6th in the league

Key returnees: Hannah Seifried (Attack), Danielle Santora (attack), Cecile Schuller (Defense), Julia Flood (attack)

Others to watch: Zoe Bounds (attack), Madeleine Conners (goalie)

Coach’s outlook for 2018 season: “I think this season will be the best one yet for SHA. We have a brand new dynamic and some fresh faces on the team. Our returning players are not only strong but smart players. I think we will surprise some high schools when we play them.”

Merion Mercy Academy

League: Catholic Academies League

Coach: 1st year as Head Coach at Merion for Lacrosse. Head Coach at Merion for field hockey the past 2 years.

Key returnees:
Arianna Lavelle, Senior, Midfield
Marcella Nostrant, Senior, Defense
Annie Dombrowski, Senior, Midfield

Others to watch:
Alexandra Lavelle, Sophomore, Midfield/Defense
Emily Hauck, Sophomore, Midfield/Attack
Quinn Guilday, Senior, Attack

Coach’s outlook for 2018 season: “You can expect to see Merion Mercy girls fit, aggressive, and hungry for some wins. We have a strong class of senior leaders who we will use their experience to help us make good, poised, and patient decisions in settled play. We look forward to facing many of the competitive teams in the catholic academies league and improving on our record from last year.”
