Staff Report

Team Philly’s Command (2021-22) earned a key 8-7 win over Upstate NY today and went 2-2 in pool play to earn the #6 seed going into tomorrow’s playoffs at the Under Armour Underclassmen Games at Towson University.

Philly plays a rematch game vs. Baltimore after loosing 9-6 in the first game of the tournament. Game time 9:15 on Field #1 at Towson.

The team is starting to gel and with strong defensive play led by Jake Brownley (Malvern Prep), Cooper Frankenheimer (Malvern Prep), Mike “Pup” Buono (Malvern Prep), Evan Bullotta (Central Bucks East), Collin Gucwa (Bishop Shanahan), Henry Tarr (Unionville), Dominic Rottura (Salesianum) and solid goalie play by Nathaniel Yi (Shipley School) and Ben Franco (Emmaus).

On the offensive end of the field the team got a spark with an on slot of hardnosed riding by attackmen Jack Clark (Springfield-Delco), Tucker Milhous (Malvern Prep) and Colin Zyck (Saucon Valley) that turned into additional offensive possessions.

The three headed monster of Josh Gallia (Shipley School), Nick Potemski (Malvern Prep) and Damien Ramondo (Radnor), all attackmen running midfield, has given opposing defenses trouble with matchups and has added much needed depth in the 90+ degree weather.

The athletic/ two-way middies of Billy Adams (Episcopal Academy), James Reilly Dugan (Episcopal Academy), Geordy Holmes (Haverford School), Aidan Kelly (Conestoga), Mason Lazasz (LaSalle) and Alex Petrignani (Easton) have shown to be well balanced and unselfish, surprising for an all star event.

In the win over Upstate NY, Zyck had three goals and Lazasz scored twice. Reilly Dugan (two assists), Clark and Petrignani each scored once.

The team will look to feed off of the one-two punch at the faceoff X from Matt Fritz (Wissahickon) and Jake McCarthy (Shipley School) leading into the playoffs.

“It’s been a special group to work with,” said Coaches PT Ricci (Conestoga), Michael Friel (Ridley) and Todd MacFarlane (Westtown School). “Parents have been very supportive and positive. We are in a good position moving into the playoffs. The team is starting to gel.”
