Philly boys’ HS previews: Delaware’s Wilmington Friends, MOT Charter

Wilmington Friends School

League: DISC – Delaware Independent Sports Conference

Coach: Jake Rashkind, 15th season

Last year’s record: 17-1. 15-0 regular season, won the DISC, advanced to state semifinals and lost to Cape Henlopen

Key returnees: Eric Pincus Sr. Attack, All-American in 2017, Peyton McNeill Jr. Midfield, River Harper Sr. Midfield, Chad Connors Sr. Defense, Nick Redd So. LSM/Def, Nate Ruhl Sr. Face-off

Others to watch: Nick Sotiropoulos Sr. Def., Danny Manley Sr. Midfield/Attack, John Blackwell Sr. SSDM

Coach’s outlook for 2018 season: “Friends returns some key players from last year’s 17-1 squad. We will rely heavily on our senior leadership at both ends of the field. We need to develop depth from our young players as the season progresses. We return a lot of offensive firepower in Eric Pincus, Peyton McNeill, and River Harper, while Chad Connors, Nick Sotiropoulos, and Nick Redd help anchor a tenacious defensive unit.”

MOT Charter High School (Mustangs)

League: Diamond Conference (Delaware DIAA)

Coach: Brian Marley

Last year’s record: 1st year as Varsity Program

Key returnees: Tre Tillman, Sr., Midfield; Noah Tuohey, Sr., Midfield

Others to watch: Jacob Poling, So., Goalie; Johnny Hassiepen, Sr. Defense; Nathan Coleman So. Attack

Coach’s outlook for 2018 season: “MOT Charter is looking forward to their first full season as a varsity program. We will play a full schedule as a member of the Diamond Conference in Delaware. Anchored by a strong senior class, MOT Charter looks forward to continued growth throughout the season and trying to earn a spot in the playoffs.”
