Philly boys’ HS previews: Ches-Mont’s West Chester Rustin, Delaware’s Smyrna

This is one of a series of previews for the 2018 Philly lacrosse season

West Chester Rustin High School

League: Ches-Mont League

Coach: Kevin Philibin, 3rd year

Last year’s record: 10-10, 5th place Chesmont, won first district playoff game in school history.

Key returnees:
Nick Benoit – 12 – Defense
Jared Marchitell – 12 – FO/M
Michael Burke – 11 – Attack
Collin Hurley – 11 – LSM
Sean Durant – 11 – Defense
Will Pileggi – 11 – Midfield
Ethan Cotter – 11 – Midfield
Nick Madonna – 10 – Midfield

Others to watch:
Sean Brown – 12 – LSM/Midfield
Bobby Bosch – 12 – DMid
Alex Hutsell – 11 – Attack
Ian MacKenzie – 11 – Defense

Coach’s outlook for 2018 season: “We’re very excited for the 2018 season at Rustin, we have a young but experienced core of players returning as well as other players looking to fill into roles. We’re hoping to continue to build on the growing success the program, compete in a strong Chesmont League and make another trip to the playoffs.”

Smyrna High School (DE)

League: North Henlopen Conference

Coach: Mike Zulkowski, 4th Year

Last year’s record: 8-8, earned a state playoff berth

Key returnees: Jack Guzman-12th A/M, Jason Kaiser-11th LSM/D, Jared Mullen-12th LSM/D

Others to watch: Jacob Jung-11th FO, Ashton Pelton-10th Att, Hunter McGuire-10th Att

Coach’s outlook for 2018 season: “After graduating a number of seniors, we will look to be starting a new era with Smyrna Lacrosse. Locally, we started a youth league program that we are a program are already reaping the rewards. Future is looking bright.”
