Philly boys’ HS previews: Catholic League’s St. Joe’s Prep, Cardinal O’Hara

This is one of a series of previews for the 2018 Philly lacrosse season

St. Joseph’s Prep

League: Catholic League

Coach: Tyler Gilbert- 12th year as head coach, 1st at Prep

Last year’s record: 12-10 record, went to 2nd round of playoffs and got knocked out by GV, finished 2nd in PCL

Key returnees:
Eric Scheuerle, senior, attack/middie
Zach Snider, senior, LSM/Defense
Michael Browne, senior, Defense

Others to watch:
Kevin Ortlieb, junior, Attack
Jack Winters, junior Defense
Trey Fruncillo, senior, Middie

Coach’s outlook for 2018 season: “We have a great senior class full of talent, depth, and leadership so we are going to lean on their efforts. It’s a group of hard working and dedicated players that want to be successful so we are very excited and optimistic about the 2018 season.”

Cardinal O’Hara High School

League: Catholic League

Coach: Evan Bohner; First Year

Last year’s record: 5-13

Key returnees: Patrick Cooper (A;12), Jimmy Yocum (M; 10), Ryan Culp (M; 11), Chris Kirby (LSM; 11), Jake Cavanaugh (D; 10) Justin Klawansky (G; 12)

Coach’s outlook for 2018 season: “I’m so excited for my first season at Cardinal O’hara. We will be very young but very athletic. We are starting the process of really building a team and a program that everyone associated with Cardinal O’hara can be proud of. There will be some challenges and some growing pains, but I think we can be very competitive if we buy in and do things the right way.”
