.@NXTlacrosse announces PHILA Stars club team for elite committed or uncommitted 2019s

September 5, 2018 by developer

From Press Release

NXT Lacrosse has announced the formation of the Phila Stars, a squad of uncommitted and committed 2019 boys that will receive elite training and access to top recruiting events.

Phila Stars will train, challenge, and prepare 18 players for a memorable senior year. The team will be led by NXT President, Peter Lawrence, a notable 18-year college coach and most recently the defensive coordinator for Team Scotland in the World Games.

Nick Taylor, head coach for Division III Arcadia University, will be helping to lead this group as well. Other guest coaches, including Bill Leahy and Brett Manney, will bring impactful coaching experience to this team.

Players on the Phila Stars can be expected to be pushed out of their comfort zone and experience training equivalent to the college level. Fall practices will be held on Wednesday nights at the Proving Grounds in Conshohocken, PA for 8 weeks with participation in 2 November recruiting events, the Jersey Invitational and Philly Invitational. To best prepare and be successful at the Fall Invitationals, the Stars will have one play day and at times, train both with other NXT high school teams and coaches, as well as on their own.

The Phila Stars are looking for players who can make the commitment without creating an unmanageable schedule during their senior fall. The coaching staff’s plan is to help uncommitted 2019s find the right fit for their academic and lacrosse futures, as many colleges and universities are still evaluating and recruiting the 2019 high school class this fall.

Players can come from any club team.

Players interested in joining this team should email Coach Lawrence (peter@nxtsports.com) to determine if you’re the right fit for this team. Limited spots remain.

“We created this opportunity because the traditional club experience came to a close at the end of your junior year,” Lawrence said. “That doesn’t make sense to me from a development or exposure standpoint. Hence a fall club team called the Phila Stars. We want to help kids who have played in any club to further train or find a college of their dreams during their senior year.”

Fall Tuition is $1,000 and that fee covers:
*Philly Stars Fall Training Schedule (8 practices, 12.5 hours)
September 23, 26. October 3, 10, 17, 24. November 7, 14.
8:00 – 9:30 pm @ The Proving Grounds in Conshohocken, PA
Sunday, September 23rd: First practice (11am-1pm)
*Two nationally-recognized, competitive recruiting events in November
*Uniform: Shorts, Phila shooting shirt, custom Phila Stars jersey
*Recruiting guidance
*Philly Stars Fall Events Schedule (2 one-day exposure events)
Sunday, November 4: Jersey Invitational at Rider University, Lawrenceville, NJ
Sunday, November 18: Philly Invitational at United Sports, Downingtown, PA

Philly women will lead U.S. Women’s National Team vs. National champion James Madison

From US Lacrosse

It will be a mix of old and new when the U.S. Women’s National Team takes the field against James Madison in the Team USA Fall Classic at US Lacrosse headquarters on Oct. 6.

U.S. Team Head Coach Jenny Levy announced the 27-player roster that will wear the red, white and blue for the exhibition game against the defending NCAA champions, Levy’s first time coaching Team USA.

“Our coaching staff is excited for our first training camp and to coach this talented group of athletes,” Levy said. “By 2021, our goal is to work with at least 80 players to build a hardworking, exciting and cohesive team to represent the USWNT in the next World Cup.

“We are using a new process to identify our team and although change can create uncertainty, I am confident that the process will excite and energize elite players who want the opportunity to demonstrate excellence, skill, creativity and team play at the highest level.”

The 27-player roster includes 12 of the 18 players that won gold with the 2017 U.S. World Cup team, a handful of other veterans from the U.S. team program and several recent college graduates.

Returning World Cup players include Alex Aust, Becca Block, Kristen Carr, Taylor Cummings, Megan Douty, Brooke Griffin, Katie Haus, Gussie Johns, Marie McCool, Alice Mercer, Kayla Treanor and Michelle Tumolo.

Johns and McCool were both seniors in college last year and will be joined by eight other members of the Class of 2018: Kasey Behr, Sarah Brown, Kristen Gaudian, Kelly Glatthorn, Courtney Murphy, Katie O’Donnell, Kylie Ohlmiller and Shayna Pirreca.

The U.S. Women – James Madison matchup is the second game of a doubleheader at US Lacrosse on Oct. 6 featuring the reigning world and national champions. The day opens with the U.S. Men playing Yale at 12 noon. Tickets are available online (https://shop.uslacrosse.org/products/team-usa-fall-classic) with a $5 savings over the walk-up price. Proceeds benefit the U.S. National Teams Program.

The U.S. women’s national team trains and plays using best-in-class products provided by Nike (apparel and footwear), Brine (equipment), STX (equipment), SISU Guard (mouthguards) and The Pearl by Guardian (balls).
