Many Philly players making key contributions at FIL World Championships

Matt Cherry (Radnor grad) scored once to help host Israel open play with an 11-3 win over Jamaica in the FIL World Championships Thursday in Netanya.

Jamaica features defenseman Goran Murray (Haverford School) and Nile Thompson (Lower Merion, Ursinus College).

Jamaica bounced back Friday with a 17-7 win over Russia as Murray scooped three groundballs.

Friday
Puerto Rico 16, Wales 4

Desi Gonzalez (Emmaus head coach, Dukes Nationals 2025 coach) had two assists and Lou Gonzalez (Director of Dukes Nationals) added one assist to help Puerto Rico roll in its opener.

Thursday

Finland 11, New Zealand 7

Alex Kiviniemi (The Hill School, PA Roughriders) scored once for Finland.

Italy 16, Turkey 8

Christian Cuccinelli (Villanova) had five goals and one assist for Italy.

Tyler Rinko (Upper Dublin) had three goals for Turkey. Rinko also had three goals Friday in an 18-11 loss to Peru.

Ireland 18, China 3

Goalie Conor Kelly (Haverford School) had four saves and yielded just one goal and Luke Palmadesso (Villanova) scored once and won 6 of 12 faceoffs for Ireland.

Switzerland 10, Slovakia 6

Justin Pickard (The Hill School/Duke’s LC, 2018) scored once for Slovakia.
