Washington Township High School (NJ) 2018 defenseman Billy Cullen has committed to play Division III lacrosse at Marymount University.

Billy Cullen profile:

Billy Cullen

High School: Washington Township High School, NJ

Position: Defense

Graduation Year: 2018

College Choice: Marymount University

Club Team: BlueStar Lacrosse

Expected Major: Business Administrations

Why did you choose Marymount? “I chose Marymount because Coach (Jon) Reynolds showed genuine care towards my college decision and showed that he wanted me to play for his team. I also got to tour the campus and was very impressed with what the school had to offer academically as well. I feel like Marymount is a great fit for me.”

HS team’s outlook for 2018 season? “I’m expecting big things this year for Washington Township. We graduated a lot of seniors last season, but I feel like we have good depth in our lineups and that there will be no drop off in skill. Coming off an overtime loss in the second round of the playoffs last year, I feel like we have something to prove. In the past few years we were a middle of the pack team and I think this year we are going to push ahead.”

Thank You: “I’d like to thank first and foremost my mom who has been with me throughout my 11 years of playing lacrosse and always made sure I had what I needed to play and always made sure I got to practices or games.

“Secondly, I’d like to thank Coach Ryan Francisco whos been coaching me since 8th grade. He always brings a level of excitement and enthusiasm to the game that I as well as other players feed off of. I’d also like to thank Coach Josh Hanlon, my head coach at Washington Township who took over just a year ago and is working not only to improve every player on the team, but also to change the culture surrounding our team. Coach Hanlon shows he cares for his players as both athletes and people.

“Finally I’d like to thank all my BlueStar coaches, specifically Bill Stuphin who worked with me the past few summer seasons and helped me improve my game each year.”

Other schools considered: Kean University, Chatham University, Georgian Court University, Fairleigh Dickinson, Alvernia
