From Press Release

Cabrini University senior defenseman Joey Hoey (Springfield-Delco) has added one more accolade to his resume, as he was one of 76 student-athletes named to the 2018 United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Div. III Scholar All-America Team, the organization announced.

Joey Hoey

Hoey becomes the 15th player in Cabrini history to earn the academic honor.

Hoey closed his playing career as a three-time All-CSAC First Team performer. After receiving USILA All-America Honorable Mention in both 2017 and 2018, Hoey became the 19th player in program history to earn multiple All-America honors.

Hoey holds the program records with 78 games played and 78 games started, while his 48 career caused turnovers rank 10th. The defenseman also scooped 95 career ground balls.

A Scholar All-American must be nominated by his coach and be a student with a senior year academic standing and a cumulative grade point average of 3.0. He will have behaved in a manner that has brought credit to himself, his institution, and to college lacrosse both on and off the field. He must also be an All-American, a member of a North/South team, or an outstanding league or conference player.

In 1989, the USILA Scholar All-America Program was established to recognize student-athletes from USILA member institutions who have distinguished themselves in the classroom as well as on the field. The USILA Selection Committee selects an overall team representing Division I, II and III.

Hoey and the Cavaliers closed the 2018 campaign with a 17-3 mark, tied for most wins in program history. The Blue and White recorded its 17th consecutive NCAA Tournament experience after topping Gwynedd Mercy 17-7 for the program’s 18th straight Colonial States Athletic Conference title.
