Avon Grove bolted to a 3-0 first-period lead and claimed an 8-5 non-league win today at Upper Dublin, dealing the Cardinals their first loss of the year.
The Devils (11-1, ranked No. 4 by Phillylacrosse.com) were coming off their first loss, a 16-4 rout to Malvern Prep Saturday at the Katie Samson Foundation Festival. Joey Borcky and Zach Augustine each had two goals and an assist and Jake Smith had a goal and an assist while Nate Hammond won 13 of 17 faceoffs and Andrew Spencer posted six saves.
Max Winebrake led the second-ranked Cards (11-1) with two goals and an assist and Dillon Lojeski had 14 saves to keep it close.
