Staff Report

The lacrosse world focuses on Philly tonight and tomorrow as the region’s first Shootout for Soldiers, the 24-hour lacrosse event, opens at Episcopal Academy.

The charity lacrosse event has raised over $1.5 million since 2012 for charities that honor soldiers. The event, founded by Tyler Steinhardt, is entirely volunteer-led, and a host committee led by Episcopal Academy has helped develop a family-friendly charity event to unite the whole community.

The event is comprised of 24, 1-hour games in a row and was open to men’s and women’s teams of all ages. Teams must fundraise a minimum of $750 to participate. In addition to lacrosse, there will be live music, food trucks and a festival of fun and activities for the whole family.

Funds from this event – which have neared the goal of $50,000, will go to The Travis Manion Foundation and the Delaware County Veterans Memorial. Shootout for Soldiers also supports four other national charities. Fans and supporters can donate money through the players’ individual fundraising pages.

The event kicks off tonight with Opening Ceremonies at 6:30 p.m., followed by the 24 1-hour games (see schedule in graphic). The event ends Friday at 7 p.m. with Closing Ceremonies.

An early highlight is the 8 p.m. matchup between Mesa Fresh and GMH, two perennial powers in the Summer Lacrosse League of Southeastern PA. These two squads feature many former and current Philly scholastic and college standouts and a rivalry that is rare among men’s club teams.

Also at 8 p.m. the Philly’s Finest 2024 girls’ team will face Kingsway Dragons. Philly Finest team needs players and grad years 2023, 2024 and 2025 welcome. Anyone interested should click here to register: https://fundraise.shootoutforsoldiers.com/checkout/register?eid=118528&ftid=123764.

The Venue: 1785 Bishop White Drive, Newtown Square, PA 19073
