The Pennsylvania Area Schoolgirls Lacrosse Association (“PASLA”), is thrilled to announce the recipients of the organization’s annual awards.
The categories and winners are described below.
Most Improved Team – Allentown Central Catholic High School.
This is awarded to the team that has shown the most improvement from the previous season, including but not limited to: improvement of record, qualify for playoffs, league standings, victories over previously unbeaten opponents. After 0-18 record in 2015, and 5-12 in 2016, Allentown’s school’s current record is 8-8; the highest wins in school history and it will participate in playoffs for the first time ever.
Rookie of the Year – Natalie Pansini, Agnes Irwin.
Awarded to a 9th grader on Varsity who has an outstanding individual season and contributes significantly to her team’s success. The 2017 recipient is Agnes Irwin’s Natalie Pansini. She has committed to the admissions process at Princeton University. Currently she is first on the team in assists and second team in total points.
Student Athlete of the Year – Liza Becker, Cheltenham.
Awarded to a junior or senior varsity letter winner (current season) demonstrating outstanding academic, athletic and community excellence in the current season. It is awarded to the player who has distinguished herself in three areas (academic, athletic, service). These criteria are weighted evenly. Liza is a four-year starter on varsity lacrosse and a captain this year. She will attend Duke university and major in global health.
Team Service Award – Merion Mercy Academy
Awarded to the team most committed to community service during the 2016-2017 academic year. Among the numerous service projects the lacrosse team participated in was Cinderella’s Closet at Visitation in Kensington. For this event, they collected over 300 gently used prom dresses and assisted local girls from 9 Phila area High School to find a dress, matching shoes and jewelry – all that made them feel like Cinderella! Congratulations to Merion Mercy!
