From Press Release
The Hofstra Men’s Lacrosse team will wrap up their fall scrimmage schedule this week with three scrimmages including two at the HEADstrong Foundation’s Nicholas Colleluori Classic Long Island (NCCLI) at James M. Shuart Stadium on Saturday, October 14. The Lax Sports Network will stream the activities to subscribers at the NCCLI from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m.
On Saturday, for the third consecutive year, Hofstra University will host the Nicholas Colleluori Classic Long Island (NCCLI), a special collegiate men’s lacrosse event honoring the life and legacy of Nick “HEAD” Colleluori. The Pride will open and close the five-team HEADstrong Classic at Shuart Stadium. Hofstra will scrimmage Bucknell University at 9 a.m. and close with a scrimmage against Penn State at 3 p.m. The entire HEADstrong Classic schedule is as follows:
Schedule
9 a.m. – Hofstra vs. Bucknell
10:30 a.m. – Hartford vs. Bucknell
12:00 p.m. – Penn State vs. Lehigh
1:15 p.m. – HEADstrong Presentation
1:40 p.m. – Hartford vs. Lehigh
3:00 p.m. – Hofstra vs. Penn State
The event is part of HEADstrong’s 10th Annual Fall Event Series. In lieu of admission, a suggested donation of $5.00 per person will be asked at the gate. HEADstrong will also have a full offering of supporter-wear on hand with proceeds helping to advance the mission. Proceeds will support the HEADstrong Foundation, an organization founded by Colleluori to improve lives of those affected by cancer.
Nick Colleluori was a member of the Hofstra lacrosse team from 2004 to 2006 and graduated from Ridley High School (PA) in 2004. Nick may have lost his battle with blood cancer on November 28, 2006, but his vision had just begun.
The HEADstrong Foundation is dedicated to Nick’s life. He drew the logo as he was waiting to go into the operating room for a procedure. Because lacrosse was his passion and he can no longer carry the ball, his family and friends have and will continue to carry the ball for him in the HEADstrong Foundation’s effort to bring Nick’s vision to reality to promote cancer awareness, support research and help eliminate this disease.
The Colleluori family will honor a local family affected by cancer and will present the Nicholas Colleluori Award to a member of each participating program for their commitment to leadership, selflessness and community.
The most anticipated part of the day will be the HEADstrong presentation and speech by the Colleluori family at 1:15 p.m. In what has become an annual tradition at the Nick Colleluori Classic the family speaks about what the HEADstrong Foundation means and what Nick Colleluori’s vision was about.
Teams will wear the HEADstrong Foundation’s lime green shoelaces to show their support for the cause. Additionally, each team will be engaged in service by fundraising advancing the HF’s mission.
A member from each team will be selected to be the recipient of the Nicholas Colleluori Award, which is presented annually to a player from each participating team whose contributions both on and off the field are transforming the landscape of their represented program.
