From Press Release
Marc Bushong (Washington Twp-NJ) became the first player in Gwynedd Mercy University Men’s Lacrosse History to be named a United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division III Scholar All American as the organization announced its recipients.
The USILA Scholar All-America Program was established to recognize student-athletes from USILA member institutions who have distinguished themselves academically, athletically and as citizens of their communities. The USILA Selection Committee selects an overall team representing Division I, II and III with the criteria as such:
A Scholar All-American must be nominated by his coach and be a student with a senior year academic standing and a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (4.0 scale). He will have behaved in a manner that has brought credit to himself, his institution, and to college lacrosse both on and off the field. He must also be an All-American, a member of a North/South team, or an outstanding league or conference player.
Head coach Dana Lindstrom reveled in the award for his graduated senior. “Marc has been a shining example of what the student athlete experience should look like throughout his career. He has excelled in the classroom and on the field for his entire career. The leadership and example that he has provided for his teammates will be seen for years to come. Marc is a remarkable young man whose character and desire to be the best has helped make him the most decorated player in program history. It has been a honor and a privilege to work with him for the past four years.”
Among the accomplishments for his career: Member of Lambda Nu, and Chi Alpha Sigma honor societies, Team Captain, 2017 CSAC Male Scholar Athlete of the Year, 2017 Gwynedd Mercy University Male Scholar Athlete of the Year, Four-time CSAC All-Academic Team, 2016 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All Area Team Men’s Lacrosse Performer of the Year, 2014 CSAC Rookie of the Year, 2017 CSAC Defensive Player of the Year, Four-time CSAC First-Team All-Conference Selection at close defense, and a 2016 and 2017 ECAC First-Team Selection
Bushong holds program records for caused turnovers in a career and season, and ground balls by a defenseman and was a four-year starter who played in every game during his career.
