US Lacrosse has announced today that Allison Geiger (2016 Haverford High grad) of Drexel Hill and Emma Chorney of Kennesaw, Georgia are the recipients of 2016 Michael Breschi Scholarships.

Established in 2007 to honor the life and memory of Michael Breschi, son of University of North Carolina men’s lacrosse head coach Joe Breschi, the scholarships are awarded annually to two graduating high school seniors who plan to attend college and are the son or daughter of a coach who serves as a full-time employee of an educational institution. Criteria considered include academic qualifications, extracurricular activities, internships, community service and employment experience. US Lacrosse administers the scholarships, with winners selected annually by the Breschi family.

Geiger is attending the University of Maryland, where she is a member of the women’s club lacrosse team. One of her teachers at Haverford describes her as compassionate, strong-willed and well-rounded.

“Allison’s talents reach far beyond the classroom,” writes Karen Laskaris in her letter of recommendation. “Her focus and dedication toward developing her overall character is exceptional among her peers and is infectious to those around her. She is a highly respected young woman whose honorable attitude is admired by many.”

Chorney is a 2016 graduate of Harrison High School in Kennesaw and will be attending Kennesaw State University. The athletics director at Harrison describes Chorney as an exceptional student-athlete.

“Emma is an outstanding classmate with her peers and is well respected by the faculty and administration,” said Matt Moody. “Her character and work ethic are impeccable, which has made her a dominant player in her sport. She is one of the most respectful and hardworking students in our school, which has led to her excellence in the classroom and on the field.”

“We are thrilled that Emma and Allison will be receiving the Michael Breschi scholarship this coming year,” Joe Breschi said. “Their academic achievements are tremendous and their involvement within the community has been nothing short of spectacular. As a family, we could not be happier for both Emma and Allison as they enter their college journey, and we sincerely thank US Lacrosse for their continued efforts in keeping Michael’s memory alive in the sport of lacrosse.”

“US Lacrosse would like to extend its best wishes to Emma at Kennesaw State University and Allison at the University of Maryland,” said Ann Carpenetti, vice president of lacrosse operations at US Lacrosse. “Both of these young women have outstanding credentials, and both have exciting futures ahead of them. US Lacrosse is honored to work with Coach Breschi and his family in awarding this scholarship to exemplary student-athletes such as these.”
