Alexis Joseph profile:

Alexis Joseph
Alexis Joseph

High School: William Penn Charter

Graduation Year: 2018

Position: Defense/ Defensive Midfielder

Club Affiliation: STEPS Philly

College Choice: Duke University

Lacrosse Honors: Nike Elite 120

What will you major in/study? Architecture

Why did you choose Duke? “When I first started playing, I knew I wanted to continue my lacrosse career at the highest level. As a player, I am aggressive, intense and passionate and Duke’s lacrosse program is just that. The coaching staff is amazing. Each coach is extremely personable, thoroughly knowledgeable about the game, dedicated to perfection on and off the field. It was very important to me that they place academics first. When my club coach told me that they were interested, I was shocked and found this new sense of motivation. I knew I wanted a school with major sports programs and great academics. Duke has everything that I look for in a university. Duke is a great fit for me and I can see myself succeeding academically and athletically. I am very excited to be coached by (Kerstin) Kimel, (Amanda) Barnes, and (Lauren) Morton.”

HS team’s outlook for 2016 season? “With this year’s new coaching staff, the entire team is looking forward to major improvements with the program. The new head coach, Colleen Magarity, is an enthusiastic and passionate coach. Her knowledge and experience will make a huge impact on the team. We are relatively young (only three senior starters) however we look forward to building from last year and continuing our growth as players and teammates.”

Thank You: “I would like to thank my club coach, Brooke Fritz. She always made sure I played to my full potential every time I stepped on the field. She is always honest and made sure I knew what I needed to fix on the lacrosse field. She also helped me a great deal with the recruiting process, always leading me in the right direction and giving the best advice. Also I would like to thank my college counselor, Ms. Nicolucci. She always made time to talk to me about anything I needed help with. Whether it was editing my emails to coaches or making my final decision on where to commit. I would like to thank my parents. Both my parents have been there for me every step of the way. My mom always made sure I was happy and having fun. My dad was always there to make sure my intensity and passion never faded. If it wasn’t for my dad taking me out every weekend to practice and my mom comforting me whenever I doubted myself, I would not have made it this far.

“Finally, I would like to thank my brother. He is always someone I can talk to about colleges and lacrosse when it gets hectic. My brother is my role model and to know that he is proud of me, means the world to me.”

Other schools considered: Cal Berkeley, UMass
