The Canadian Lacrosse Association (CLA) is pleased to announce that current National Team Director for Box, Johnny Mouradian, has been appointed to the position for another four-year term. His second term will commence at the conclusion of the 2015 FIL World Indoor Lacrosse Championships.
CLA’s national team strategy was presented to the CLA over four years ago after a review and consultation process, led by then volunteer Team Canada Executive Director, Dean French. The foundation of which was to design a strategy that integrated all five national teams together, structured to ensure long term international success and to maintain quality high performance programming for the development of national players.
Mouradian is the head coach at Bryn Athyn College and was coach and General Manager of the Philadelphia Wings. He also is President and CEO of the American Indoor Lacrosse Association.
Mouradian along with the directors of Canada’s other two national team disciplines Gary Gait, CLA’s National Team Director for Women’s Field and David Huntley, CLA’s National Team Director for Men’s Field Lacrosse work to oversee the national team program staff, guide the player identification and selection process, monitor team members and oversees the planning for their respective discipline in conjunction with the National Team Chairman, Dean French, and CLA Director of High Performance and International Relations, Stewart Begg.
Continuing on the long running success of Canada’s national box game at the international level, Mouradian will look to elevate Canada’s national summer sport. CLA’s Director of High Performance and International Relations, Stewart Begg spoke to the national team program: “The national team strategy and culture that has been built over the past four years is a great foundation for continued success both nationally and internationally; we’ve seen great results in recent years – the senior women’s field team capturing an historic silver medal in 2013, the 2012 Under-19 men’s field team becoming the first team in international competition to defeat the United States at the U-19 level and our senior men’s field team claiming the world title just last summer in Denver. A collective vision, experienced leaders and world-renowned lacrosse contributors are a definite strength for Canadian lacrosse – having Johnny back for a second term ensures that that momentum will continue through the next quadrennial.”
Dean French, CLA National Team Chairman, stated, “Johnny has been involved with Team Canada for a long time having been an integral member of the leadership group as Team Canada Men’s Indoor GM that won the inaugural World Championship in 2003 and again in 2007 and 2011. Not to be forgotten his time as a player and most recently over the past four years in the director role all accumulated into a tremendous amount of depth of knowledge and expertise. His experience, dedication and passion in all forms of lacrosse both on and off the floor make him an ideal selection as the CLA National Team Director for Box Lacrosse and I am confident the program will continue to flourish under his leadership”
A true leader, Mouradian touched on his personal approach to the next four years, “Our National Team culture has been instilled with a positive commitment from everyone involved winning and performing at their highest level, reaching their greatest potential as a group both on and off the floor.” He continued, “It is a great honor to continue working with Team Canada Chairman Dean French, our coaching staff and support staff to build on our success as World Champions. We are developing strategies to continue to grow our Team Canada brand domestically and grow box lacrosse in Canada and internationally. Working alongside Dave (Huntley) and Gary (Gait) as well, is a real pleasure.”
Canada’s national indoor team will take to the international floor next in September with aspirations of claiming their fourth-straight World title. Thirteen nations will compete for the world title at the 2015 FIL World Indoor Lacrosse Championship September 18-27, 2015 in Syracuse, New York.
