The Black Bear 2018-AA Team won its first championship at the 2018 AA Division at the Victory Events Boys Summer Slam at the Westtown School June 20-21. The 2018-AA division featured the only the best 2018 teams at Summer Slam and included FCA Northeast, Leading Edge, Blueprint lacrosse, and Bucks Select.
Black Bear defeated all its divisional members in pool play with tough one-goal wins over both Leading Edge (6-5) and Blueprint (4-3). In the championship game Black Bear faced a very tough FCA Northeast 2018 team as neither side could pull away.
With the game tied, 5-5, with under 5 minutes to go Black Bear midfielder John Quillman (1 goal) got a loose ball on a failed clear by FCA and found attackman Archer Rymisewski (2g, 1a) at the top of the restraining box. Once Archer got the ball he drove to the cage, drew a defenseman and dumped it down to Zacharias Lawrence (1 goal) who cashed it in with a smooth low to high fake.
In the closing minutes of the game FCA got two doorstep opportunities but 2018 goalminder and Unionville varsity starter Owen Rogers (12 saves) stuffed both to seal the deal and allow the celebration to begin. Rounding out the scoring for in the championship for Black Bear was MacKenzie Cassidy (1g), Dan Bathon (1g0, Connor Heisman (1a), and Brian Fehr (2a). Face Off Specialist Bobby Mieczkowski went a solid 8 for 13 at the Face-off X.
So far this summer the Black Bear 2018-AA Team, Black Bear’s top 2018 team, has gone an impressive 10-2 with its only losses coming against CNY Roadhawks and Bucks Select 2018 Black at Lehigh Laxfest. This past Thursday the team went down to Maryland playing at UPLAX in the 2018-A Elite group and went 3-0 with tough wins over Lax World 2018, NJ Thunder 2018, and back yard rival Old School 2018 Navy.
The club will be at Lafayette College this Wednesday as part of the Leopard Classic it wil face highly regarded CT Chargers 2018, STEPS All-Stars 2018, and Leading Edge 2018.
