Academy of the New Church 2018 midfielder-attackman Kevin Vandegrift has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Saint Joseph’s University.
Kevin Vandegrift log:
High School: Academy of the New Church
Graduation Year: 2018
Position: Middie/Attack
College Choice: Saint Joseph’s University
Club Affiliations: The Dukes and Big 4
Lacrosse Honors: Penn Select, Duke’s, Big4
What will you major in/study? Undecided
Why did you choose St. Joe’s? “The decision was easy for me. I spent last spring watching my brother Ray help St.Joe’s to a 11-3 regular season and best year in the program’s history. My brother James is currently a junior and after he graduates he will be playing with Ray at St Joe’s. I really like the coaches, the school, the campus and it’s only a half hour from home, so my family can make the games. I expect St Joe’s to be in the NCAA tournament this spring and for years to come.”
Outlook for 2015 HS season? “This year is another big step for ANC as we just got a new coach a year ago. Coach Forster has done a great job of really turning around the program. We have many key freshman who will help the team right away, and we return almost everyone from last year. We will be much stronger than last season. Our team has a harder schedule this year, and we can’t wait to get started. For the 2015 season, our team goals are to win our league again and to go as far as possible in the Inter-Ac Invitational at the end of the season.”
Thank You: “First, I want to thank my parents because this wouldn’t have been possible without them. They show so much support and they try their hardest to come to all my sporting events, even though they have 11 other kids to get places. My Dad watches my every move on the field and tells me after the games what I could have done better.
“I would also like to thank Coach McKinney, Coach Gregg and the other Big4 HHH coaches. They have really helped me develop into such a better player. Also, I would like to thank Coach Ebe, Coach Christmas and the rest of the Duke’s lacrosse coaches. I would also like to thank Abington Lacrosse Club. I played for Abington since preschool and if it wasn’t for Abington, I wouldn’t be in this position today. I would like to thank my current high school coach Rob Forster and the rest of the Academy of the New Church coaching staff. They are totally committed to all the guys on the team, and building one of the best programs in the area.
“Lastly, I would like to thank my seven brothers for always pushing me and always wanting to shoot or pass in the backyard. My brothers Mike, Ray and James have always been criticizing my performance and trying to make me a better player and person.”
