Game two for the Wings began at a slow pace. Rochester took an early 1-0 lead with a goal from former Philadelphia Wing, Dan Dawson. Philadelphia evened things up with a goal from free agent acquisition, Ryan Ward. The first quarter ended tied at three. The second quarter belonged to Rochester. The Knighthawks went on a seven goal scoring run and carried a convincing 9-3 lead into halftime. Philadelphia only led once in the first half.

The final half of the game was a tale of scoring runs for both teams. Rochester extended their run from the second quarter into the third period. Philadelphia regrouped and countered with a run of their own, scoring six goals in a row to cut Rochester’s lead to a single score with seven minutes remaining.

The final minutes belonged to the Knighthawks as they showed their championship poise and added three more scores. This sealed the win for Rochester, who improves to 2-0 and has sole possession of first place in the East Division.

Some positives for the Wings included solid contributions from Kevin Ross, Jordan Hall, and Kyle Buchanan. Buchanan led the team in points with six (2 goals, 4 assists). Jordan Hall has scored at least two goals in each game this season. Evan Kirk reached a career milestone by recording his 600th career, regular season save.

The Knighthawks were paced by the three-headed scoring monster of Dawson, Cody Jameison and Craig Point, who combined for 19 of the team’s 32 total points (8 goals, 11 assists).

The Philadelphia Wings host the Buffalo Bandits at Wells Fargo Center for their 2014 season home opener today at 4 p.m.
