German takes over for Eric Gregg who stepped down last summer after six years at the helm of the Prep lacrosse program, which reached the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association title game in 2011.

“Our search committee did a very thorough job examining all of the candidates who applied and I was thrilled at the names brought through the process,” said SJ Prep Principal Jason Zazyczny, who chaired the search committee. “I am excited about Coach German and his experience, his passion and his enthusiasm.”

At Villanova, German had been the Defensive Coordinator since 2012 after serving two years as the Assistant Offensive Coordinator and Recruiting Coordinator. During his tenure at Nova, he assisted in all phases of operation including game and practice plans, recruiting, scouting and film breakdown. The Wildcats won the Big East Regular Season title in 2013 and advanced to the championship game of the Big East Tournament in 2013 and 2014.

“I couldn’t be any more excited to be taking over the St. Joseph’s Prep lacrosse program,” said German, who recently served as an assistant coach for Team Thailand at the 2014 World Games. “Coach Gregg accomplished so much with the team and I look forward to building on that and taking Prep lacrosse to even greater heights. Our goal is to be the best team in the area and we will work hard to accomplish that.”

German began his college career at Alfred University, where he spent two years and was Rookie of the Year in 2004 before transferring to Villanova. A four-time varsity letter winner, German served as the Wildcats captain in 2007 when he was also a North-South All-Star. He is also pursuing a Master’s degree in Coaching and Athletic Administration at Concordia University.
