St Mark’s High School (DE) junior defenseman-LSM Matt DePietro has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Sacred Heart University.

Matt DePietro log:

Matt DePietro
Matt DePietro

High School: St Marks High School, Wilmington, DE

Graduation Year: 2015

Position: Defense/ LSM

College Choice: Sacred Heart University, Fairfield, Connecticut

Club Affiliations: Team 302 Lacrosse and Silverbacks Lacrosse

Major lacrosse honors: Top 205 Camp All-Star, Jake Reed Fall Nike Blue Chip selection

Academic honors, service projects: St Marks Student Council member and Blue Gold Club, Vice President of Young Republicans, Lead Conference in Washington DC

What will you major in/study? Digital Communications and Film

Why did you choose Sacred Heart? “I am interested in media and film and it has the Digital Communications program which is sort of a combined major in information technology and media production. It’s also close to New York and there are opportunities for internships at major studios and TV networks.

“I also really appreciated Coach (Jon) Basti’s attitude, that lacrosse is a tool to achieve broader goals. For example the team does a lot of work for the Wounded Warriors project and things like that. Of course the team wants to win games, and make the NEC playoffs, but its not just the number of wins that determines what you accomplished.”

HS team’s outlook for next season? “I am optimistic, we are going to do well. The team is working hard. We have a lot of experienced players including guys who either started or played a lot last year when we made it to the state semifinals, so I am hopeful we will be successful this year as well.”

Additional Comments: “I want to thank my parents for giving me the opportunity to play lacrosse, and all my coaches, especially Coaches Motta and Galbraith from Team 302, Coach Zwickert from Silverbacks and Coach Reynolds who is the Head Coach of my HS team.”

Other schools considered: University of Tampa and High Point University, University of Delaware
