Gloucester Catholic junior LSM/defenseman Shane Kenney has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at the New Jersey Institute of Technology.

Shane Kenney log:

Shane Kenney
Shane Kenney

High School: Gloucester Catholic

Graduation Year: 2015

Position: LSM/DEF

College Choice: NJIT

Club Affiliation:
South Jersey Shamrocks

Major lacrosse honors:
1st All-South Jersey time/NJ.Com as Soph. 2nd Team All-Conference

Academic honors, service projects:
Inducted into National Honor Society 12/13, Volunteer Gloucester PAL Club

What will you major in/study?
Engineering

Why did you choose the school? “I chose it for the academic reputation and to compete at a high level for LAX. I look forward to the challenge both academically and athletically; Moreover, I wanted the chance to help Coach (Travis) Johnson build a program and a tradition.”

HS team’s outlook for this season? “Last year we had a good season even though we had a key player out due to injury for 4 weeks. We advanced to second round in the State Tournament and lost a close one in a monsoon. This season will be interesting; our attack and middies are solid. We did just get news that one of our top Middies is out for year with a torn ACL and he will be hard to replace, but hopefully someone steps up to fill void. Our defense lost a lot to graduation last year; again some young guys will have to rise to the challenge. Two seniors offer a lot of firepower on the offensive side, (Patrick) Richardson and (James) Higginbotham.”

Other comments: “I would like to thank GCHS Coach Ryan Murphy and SJ Shamrocks Coach Bill Keane for their guidance over the past 3 years.”

Other schools considered? Monmouth, Lafayette, Scranton, Robert Morris
