Loyola junior Nikko Pontrello (St. Augustine Prep) was named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week.

Pontrello tied and then reset his career-high in goals last week, matching his previous best of four on Wednesday afternoon in a 20-4 defeat of Towson. He eclipsed that mark with a six-goal effort Saturday afternoon in the Greyhounds’ first-ever Patriot League game, a 16-4 win over Holy Cross.

The junior from Marlton, N.J., tallied goals in the first and second quarter before scoring four in a row at the start of the third. Five of his six goals came during the Greyhounds’ 14-0 run that put the game away. In four games this season, Pontrello has scored 15 goals, two off his personal-best of a season ago. He is averaging 3.75 goals per game and 4.75 points per game, the 11th and 18th best marks in NCAA Division I.

St. Joe’s Blasco is NEC Player of the Week

Saint Joseph’s sophomore attack Matt Blasco has been named the Northeast Conference Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday afternoon. This marks the first NEC Player of the Week award for both Blasco and Saint Joseph’s.

In the first start of his collegiate career, Blasco scored three goals and tallied three assists for a team-best six points in SJU’s home-opening win over VMI on Saturday. Blasco fired off four shots on goal in seven attempts to lead the Hawks to their first win of the season.

Princeton’s Schreiber is Ivy Player of the Week

Princeton senior midfielder Tom Schreiber (East Meadow, N.Y.) earns the initial Player of the Week award for the 2014 season with his five-point day in the Tigers’ 12-10 win over Hofstra on Saturday. Schreiber had three goals and two assists on the day, but more importantly had a pair of goals and a helper during a crucial 8-1 run that brought the Tigers back from an 8-4 deficit. Schreiber put the Tigers up for good with 6:46 to play with his third goal of the day, giving Princeton a 10-9 lead.
It was his 17th consecutive game with at least three points.

Schreiber’s Statistics for the Week: 1 GP, 1 GS, 3G, 2A, 5 Pts., 5 shots, 4 SOG, 1 GB
