Garnet Valley High School senior defender Shivani Chinnappan has made a commitment to play Division III lacrosse at Swarthmore College.

Why did you choose Swarthmore? “Swarthmore really appeals to my academic and athletic interests. I can attend knowing I’ll be challenged in every aspect, and that is essential to be able to develop skills in any area. The coaching staff at Swat was amazing in their support and guidance in the commitment process, which was something that I really appreciated. What really sold me on going to Swarthmore was the students. On my visits everyone was so accepting, unique, and driven that it made me ecstatic to be a part of the student body next year.”
Additional Comments: “I’d like to thank my club coach Donna Coyne. Coach Coyne has had a profound influence on me not only as a player but as in individual as a whole. I can’t thank her enough for all that she has done for me as well as the Brandywine Majors Program.
“I’d also like to thank our assistant coach Penny Mitros, who I like to call my “Field Mom”. Love you Penny!
“I’d also like to thank Christy Ann Morello, who is the director of the Majors program, and was the one to introduce me to Swat in the first place. I’d like to thank my Majors sisters, without whom I would have never grown to love the sport as I do today.
“I’d like to thank Jennifer Purvis and Erin Fidler, my high school Field Hockey coaches. Because of them pushing me as a player I now have the opportunity to play both Lacrosse and Field Hockey at Swarthmore, two sports that I really love.
“Last but not least I want to thank my parents. They are the reason I drive myself, so that one day I can say I worked as hard as they did to get where they are today.”
