From Press Release

The Colonial Athletic Association announced the 2014 women’s lacrosse preseason poll Tuesday morning and the University of Delaware was selected to finish fourth overall and Drexel fifth, according to a vote by the league’s head coaches.

“Our goal is to compete for championships here at Delaware,” commented Blue Hens head coach Kateri Linville, who is in her fourth season at the helm of the Blue Hens. “We know that it is not where you start, but where you finish. The staff and team are focused on the process and excited to step up to the challenges on the road to the CAA tournament.”

An experienced group, the Hens return 23 letterwinners, including 11 starters, from the 2013 squad that went 10-6 overall and 4-3 in conference action in addition to welcoming 10 newcomers to the team.

Furthermore, Delaware returns four All-CAA honorees from 2013 in juniors Caitlin McCartney (Archbishop Wood) and Chelsea Fay (Villa Maria Academy) and sophomores Kara Dattellas (Camillus, N.Y.) and Erin Wein (Middletown, Md.).

The two-time defending CAA champion Towson Tigers were picked to finish atop the standings in 2014 by earning four first-place votes for a total of 24 points. James Madison followed closely behind with 21 points (earning one first-place nod) and 2013 CAA Championship runner-up Hofstra received a total of 17, including one first-place vote. Drexel and William and Mary rounded out the predicted order of finish.
