Women’s lacrosse wrap: Drexel tops La Salle, 12-6; Penn State rolls

The Drexel women’s lacrosse team topped La Salle, 12-6, in its home opener at Vidas Field on Wednesday night. Drexel held a 7-4 advantage over the Explorers at halftime, and went on to score five more goals in the second half to secure the victory.

The Dragons won 16 draw controls to La Salle’s four. The win improved the squad to 2-0 overall, while the Explorers fell to 1-1 on the season.

Kelli Joran (Downingtown East) had three goals and two assists as well as five draw controls for the Dragons while Kristin Kopenhaver tallied five draw controls and a goal. Kelly Palace also recorded three goals for a new career-high and Emily Duffey (Lenape) scored twice. Amanda Norcini (Conestoga) added two scores and two caused turnovers.

Senior Alyse Maiden (Washington Township) and Watts had two assists each. Maiden is now tied for fifth on the Dragons’ all-time leaderboard with 41 career assists. Sophomore goalkeeper Teresha Bradley (Rancocas Valley) posted a career-high seven saves.

Caitlin Brostrant led La Salle (1-1) with two goals while Kelly Furman (Boyertown) and lauren McDermott (North Penn) each had a goal and an assist.

Penn State 18, Bucknell 2

Mackenzie Cyr had four goals and three assists to lead the Lions while Avery Curley (Episcopal Academy) had two goals, Ally Heavens (Garnet Valley) scored once, Carly Bitzer (Central Bucks East) had a draw control and a caused turnover and fellow defender Cat Layne (Villa Maria Academy) had a groundball and a caused turnover.

Madison Hurwitz (Council Rock South) scored once while defender Andrea Feldman (Radnor) had a caused turnover and a groundball for Bucknell.
