Weekend women’s lacrosse roundup: DEL, Lehigh fall; Penn gives No. 1 MD a battle

Sophomore Allison Hahn tallied four points on three goals and one assist but it wasn’t enough as Towson defeated Delaware, 14-9, today in a CAA women’s lacrosse game contest in Newark.

Junior Chelsea Fay (Villa Maria Academy) also scored multiple goals for Delaware with two while Caitlin McCartney (Archbishop Wood), Shannon Burns (Springfield-Delco), Abbie Hartman (North Penn), and McKenzie Rafferty (Downingtown East) each added one.

Rhiannon Coogle led Towson with a career-high six goals while Jackie LaMonica, Laura Zinkand, and Kelly Murkey each posted two scores.

Yale 16, Lehigh 8

Freshman AnnaElise Morello (Garnet Valley) had three goals and an assist to lead Yale.

Julie McBrien had three goals for Lehigh whilefreshman Megan Paytas and sophomore Kelsey Yenco added two goals and two assists apiece.

Saturday
Maryland 15, Penn 10

Iris Williamson (Germantown Friends) had four goals and Maddie Poplawski (Springfield-Delco) had two goals and four draw controls as Penn (4-4) held its own against the No. 1 team in the country (13-0).

Princeton 12, Cornell 10

Erin McMunn had two goals and two assists and Alex Bruno added two goals and an assist while Sam Ellis (Radnor) scored once for the Tigers (6-3, 3-0) in the Ivy League win.

Kate Ivory (Episcopal Academy) had four GBs, three CTs and a DC for Cornell on defense.

UMass 20, La Salle 11

Caitlyn Brostrand (Camden Catholic) led La Salle with three goals in the loss to Massachusetts in the Atlantic 10 opener for both squads.

Melanie Sarcinello (Marple Newtown) added two goals, one assist, five draw controls and two ground balls for La Salle

Division II

West Chester 18, Millersville 8

Jamie Dolan scored five goals, and Nicole Pyle and Lauren Glassey (Henderson) each registered six points, as No. 2 West Chester pulled away from visiting Millersville.

West Chester (5-0, 2-0 PSAC) remained perfect on the season and in league play.

Division III

Haverford 11, McDaniel 7

Diana Perry registered four goals and one assist to help the visiting Fords get past McDaniel College in Centennial action.

Shaking off an early 2-0 deficit, the Fords (7-2, 1-1 CC) scored five of the next six goals of the contest to move out to a 5-3 advantage with six and a half minutes remaining until intermission.
