Two men have been arrested in the brutal beating death of Wheeling Jesuit University (W.V.) senior and Pennridge graduate Kevin Figaniak outside a university bar early Saturday morning.
Craig Tyler Peacock, 22, of Clewiston, Fla., and Jarrett Mathis Chandler, 24, of Winnfield, La., were arrested and charged with murder in the attack. They are being held on $1 million bail at Northern Regional Jail in West Virginia.
Figaniak, 21, died Sunday morning at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pitsburgh after suffering severe head trauma during the attack.
According to news reports, Figaniak and a friend were walking back to the Wheeling Jesuit campus after a night out in a nearby town center when they were attacked. The friend, who has not been identified, suffered minor injuries and released from the hospital later Saturday.
Figaniak started 12 games last spring for the 11-6 Cardinals as an attackman/midfielder, and had 14 goals and 8 assists. Figaniak was an All-Suburban One attackman at Pennridge and scored 95 goals in his final two seasons. He played club lacrosse for LB3.
Figaniak also excelled at ice hockey, and played on the Wheeling Jesuit club team.
According to reports, Wheeling Police said the investigation is still active and additional charges could be filed in the near future.
Funeral services for Figaniak have not been released yet.
