Thursday’s District 1 boys’ roundup: Downingtown East downs rival West; Radnor, U. Dublin win

Brandyn O’Connell collected five goals and four assists Thursday to lead host Downingtown East to a 12-9 victory over arch-rival Downingtown West in the second round of the District 1 boys’ lacrosse tournament.

The second-seeded Cougars (14-6) advance to the quarterfinals to meet 10th-seeded Avon Grove Saturday at Harriton High (10 a.m.).

Nathan Wingate and Ian Riehl each added two goals for Downingtown East and Justin Risser won 14 of 23 face-offs.

Ty Keen and Matt Logan each had three goals to pace the Whippets (10-10).

Radnor 10, Central Bucks South 5

Peter Donato scored three goals and Jack Wilson scored twice while Jake Shapiro won 14 of 16 saves to lead the top-seeded Red Raiders. Alex Manderack posted 11 saves.

Ryan Kelly made 17 saves in goal for the Titans and Ty Strayline scored three goals.

Upper Dublin 8, Bishop Shanahan 6

Ben Winebrake scored three goals, Drew Potts had two goals and an assist and Michael Rama added a pair as the Cardinals advanced to the District 1 quarterfinals for the first time ever. Jack Deragon had 12 saves for UD.

For Shanahan, John Mehok scored three goals.

Springfield-Delco 11, Henderson 3

Vince Marra collected four goals and an assist while Steve Halko, Glenn McCarry and Dan Dickinson had two goals apiece for the Cougars.

Chase Heisman had 12 saves for the Warriors.

Avon Grove 11, Ridley 4

Tanner Peck scored four goals, Will Schreiner made 10 saves and Anthony Cardile won 12 of 17 face-offs to lead the Devils.

Dalton George had three goals to pace the Green Raiders.

Garnet Valley 8, Central Bucks East 3

Brock D’Annunzio scored three goals and Robert Raucci had two goals and two assists as the Jaguars used a 6-1 run in the second half to down the Patriots.

Conestoga 12, Penncrest 6

Jake Scott scored four goals to pace Conestoga to a win over its Central League rival.

Will Manganiello scored twice for Penncrest and goalie Casey Brown made 17 saves.
