ReQRuitme boys’ recruit: St. Joseph’s Prep 2017 defenseman Young commits to Maryland

St. Joseph’s Prep freshman defenseman Jordan Young has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at the University of Maryland.

Position: Defenseman

College Choice: University of Maryland

Club Affiliation: Duke’s Lacrosse Club

Major Lacrosse Honors: 2017 Dukes Lacrosse Captain, 2013 US Lacrosse Semi-Finalists with Dukes Triple H, Named to the All Tournament Team, 2013 Crab Feast Champions with Dukes Triple H, 2013 Young Guns Champions with Dukes Triple H, 2012 US Lacrosse Champions with Penn Select.

Service Projects:

Intended major: Business

Why did you choose Maryland? “I chose the University of Maryland because of the impressive academics, the outstanding lacrosse program and the campus culture was a perfect fit. Coach John Tillman emphasized the importance of developing both as a strong lacrosse player and student-athlete. Coaches Ryan Moran and Kevin Conry and the lacrosse players made the University of Maryland feel like a great college home.”

HS team’s outlook for 2014: “The team has a lot of talent so we are focused on working hard, developing our strengths and having a great season. The major goal is to win the PCL Championship and head to States.”

Other comments: “I would like to thank my parents for their support with my decision. Also, I would like to thank Coach Eric Gregg and Coach Bill McKinney for their leadership and mentorship and the opportunity to play for Dukes Triple H. I would also like to thank Coach Ebe Helm and Coach Jason Christmas for the opportunity to be a part of the Duke’s Lacrosse Club and keeping the bar high. A special thanks to Chase Young (SJP’14, Michigan commit) and Andrew Benedict (SJP ’14, Marquette commit) for being relentless mentors. All the thanks to my teammates who are dedicated and give me inspiration to play lacrosse! Thank you to Coaches Bob, Celini and Sowers for getting me started at HLC.”
