Matt Stagnitta log:

Matt Stagnitta
Matt Stagnitta

High School: Montgomery High School, N.J.

Graduation Year: 2016

Position: Midfield

College Choice: Johns Hopkins University

Club Affiliation: Leading Edge Elite 2016

Major lacrosse honors: New Jersey Freshman of the Year, 3rd team All-State, 2nd team All-Skylands Conference, Coaches MVP Award, School assist record, Freshman points record, NJ All-Star South team 2012, Nike Blue Chip, Maverik Showtime

Other sports: Varsity football, and basketball

Academic Honors: Honor Roll

What will you major in/study? “Liberal Arts, I would also like to study psychology because I would like to follow my fathers footsteps and become a coach.”

Why did you choose JHU? “I chose Hopkins because of the outstanding academic reputation, the storied lacrosse program, a chance to compete for a National Championship, and Coach (Dave) Pietramala and his great staff.”

What are your thoughts on your HS team next season? “We will be young but some of our young kids got some varsity experience last year. The rising freshman class is very athletic. The experience of lefty rising junior attackman Cam Garinger will be a big aspect for our team. Of course it will be tough to fill the shoes of the talented senior class we just lost that included Maryland commit Josh Reinson, and Western New England commit Maxx Bertelletti. But I’m positive Coach Roy will make us reach our full potential.”

Other comments: “I’d like to thank my Dad for his leadership, guidance, and advice. If it weren’t for my dad then I wouldn’t be the player or person I am today. I’d also like to thank coach Pietramala for the opportunity to be a part of such a great program. Lastly, I’d like to thank Coach Chris Roy and Coach Tim Roy for their mentorship and encouragement.”

Other schools considered: Maryland, Denver, Penn, Notre Dame

Other info: Stagnitta is the son of Denver Outlaws coach and former Rutgers coach Jim Stagnitta
