Lenape (N.J.) sophomore face-off specialist/midfielder Conor Gaffney has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Lehigh University.

Conor Gaffney log:

High School: Lenape High SchoolConor Gaffney

Graduation Year: 2016

Position: Face-off/Middie

College Choice: Lehigh University

Club Affiliation: Duke’s Lacrosse Club

Major lacrosse honors, All-Star teams, Camps, Showcases:
Started on High School Varsity as a freshmen and made First Team All-Conference, Team MVP of Best of the Best Showcase, Lehigh Valley Rising Sophomore Showcase All-Star, Jake Reed Nike Blue Chip

Academic honors, service projects: Principal’s List/High Honor Roll, Lenape Leadership Academy

What will you major in/study? Something science related, probably Biology or Engineering

Why did you choose the school? “Lehigh has everything I was looking for: great academics, great facilities; a strong lacrosse program that competes nationally; a top-tier coaching staff under Coach (Kevin) Cassese, and a true feeling of family amongst the players. I felt right at home on campus and really liked the team’s enthusiasm about the strength and conditioning program. I also love that they have a former face-off guy on the staff, Coach (Will) Scudder. Lastly, I’m excited to continue playing with several of my Duke’s LC teammates who also recently committed to Lehigh.”

What is your team’s outlook for next season? “We have to replace our All-American goalie who graduated, but many of our key players are back. I believe we have a great shot to compete for the conference title and then make a run in the state playoffs.”

Other comments: “I would like to thank the following for helping me achieve my dream of playing Division 1 Lacrosse: my parents for their support and for driving me all over the East Coast the last few years; Shay Cowan and Chris Eck for teaching me how to face-off; the Lenape H.S. coaches, Sutphin and Cummins; and my youth coaches, Schadt and Kitchen from South Jersey Black Storm. Finally, I want to thank the Duke’s LC coaching staff, especially Coaches Ebe Helm, Jason Christmas and Face-off Coach Mike Dolente for all you did for me both on and off the field.”

Other schools considered? Penn and Towson
