Garnet Valley junior defenseman Jake Matier has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at St. Joseph’s University.

Jake Matier log:

Jake Matier

High school: Garnet Valley High School

Graduation year: 2014

Position: Defense

College choice: Saint Joseph’s University

Club affiliations: Jags Lax, HEADstrong

Major lacrosse honors, camps and showcases: Jake Reed’s Nike Blue Chip 2x, Top 205 All Star, Brine Shootout, Philly Showcase 2x

What will you major in/study: Business

Why did you choose school: “Saint Joseph’s University is a great fit for me as a student and as an athlete. The campus is absolutely amazing and I couldn’t picture myself anywhere else. Coach (Taylor) Wray made me feel at home by making sure I knew what his teams plans are for the future and the role that I will play within that. The program is on the rise and I am confident that it can become a top Division 1 program in the future.”

Outlook for your high school team:
“Although, we lost some very talented seniors last year, I believe that this year we can get things done with the strong upperclassman players that we currently have. The Central League is tough, but I know that with leadership and determination from the team, we can go far.”

Other comments:
“I want to thank my parents for being there for me every step of the way. If it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t have been granted this amazing opportunity to play Division 1 lacrosse at an exceptional school. Thanks to my Garnet Valley coach, Frank Urso, who is everything you look for in a coach and more, teaching and guiding me to become a better person and an even better lacrosse player. Thanks to my HEADstrong coach, Brian Neary, who provided me with all the tools necessary to fulfill my dreams of playing collegiate lacrosse. I would also like to thank Coach Snow, Coach Kivlen, Coach Tingle and Coach Trowbridge for all of their support.”

Other schools considered: Notre Dame, High Point, Penn, Denver, Cornell
