Matt Schleicher scored three goals while Pierre Atkinson had two goals and an assist as Conestoga toppled Manheim Township, 8-6, tonight at Exeter in the first round of the PIAA boys’ lacrosse tournament.
The three-time defending champion Pioneers advance to the quarterfinals Saturday when they will meet District 2 champion Delaware Valley, a 7-1 winner over Selinsgrove.
Christian Jobs won 11 of 16 face-offs and Jake Scott added two goals for Conestoga, which led, 4-3, at halftime and stretched it to 6-3 before holding off the District 3 champion Blue Streaks (21-3). Robbie Zonino was the winning goalie with nine saves.
Conestoga needs two more wins to reach the state finals for the fifth time in the five-year history of the PIAA tournament.
Tyler Karpinski led Manheim Township with three goals and an assist.
