From Press Release

NXTsports and the Philadelphia Wings are proud to announce a marketing partnership under which NXT will work to organize grassroots ticket drives for the Wings.NXT Wings

The partnership will have a special launch at the Wings home opener on Sunday, January 12 against the Buffalo Bandits at the Wells Fargo Center. NXT will organize a special sales drive for that game with a portion of all ticket proceeds going to The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s (CHOP) Minds Matter initiative, dedicated to youth concussion treatment, outreach and awareness. Additionally, the Wings will wear specially-designed NXT and CHOP jerseys that will be auctioned off after the game with net proceeds going to Minds Matter.

Five dollars for each ticket sold for the January 12 game using the designated promo code MINDSMATTER will benefit The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. To purchase fundraising tickets or more information call 215-389-WING (9464) or visit WingsLAX.com/mindsmatter.

Nikki Varoutsos, Director of Marketing for the Philadelphia Wings, said, “The Wings are pleased to announce this partnership with NXTsports to continue to grow the sport of lacrosse in Greater Philadelphia. It is rewarding to help raise awareness and contribute to a worthy cause the magnitude of CHOP’s Minds Matter program.”

Added Andy Hayes, President of NXTsports, “The Wings have been a Philadelphia institution for over 25 years, and NXT is excited for the opportunity to help rally the youth lacrosse community around our hometown team. We are also proud to continue our efforts to raise money for CHOP’s Minds Matter initiative.”

Dr. Christina L. Master, Attending Physician, Orthopedic Surgery, Pediatric Sports Medicine Specialist at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia said “We are grateful to NXTsports and the Philadelphia Wings for bringing attention to the importance of concussion awareness and treatment in the adolescent population. Their philanthropic support of the Minds Matter program will continue to support important research on refining the best practices for concussion care and rehabilitation in childhood.”

About the Philadelphia Wings

The Philadelphia Wings are the most decorated members of the National Lacrosse League with six championships. Founded in 1986, the Wings are owned and operated by Philadelphia Wings L.P., whose principal owners are Michael French, Brad Brewster and Ted Goldthorpe. Comcast-Spectacor serves as the marketing, promotional, advertising, sponsorship and publicity arm of the Wings. The Wings play all of their home games at the Wells Fargo Center.

About The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia

Founded in 1855, The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is the birthplace of pediatric medicine in America. Throughout its history, a passionate spirit of innovation has driven this renowned institution to pursue scientific discovery, establish the highest standards of patient care, train future leaders in pediatrics and advocate for children’s health. A haven of hope for children and families worldwide, CHOP is a nonprofit charitable organization that relies on the generous support of its donors to continue to set the global standard for pediatric care.

About Minds Matter: Improving Pediatric Concussion Care

Concussions receive substantial attention in national media, but these injuries affect more than just professional athletes. An estimated 650,000 concussions occur among children and adolescents each year in the U.S. Visits to The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia for concussion have increased by 400 percent since 2009, and a medical record review showed that only half of those cases were sports related. Because the job of a child is school and not sport, focusing on “return to learn,” as well as return to play, is essential.

CHOP’s primary and specialty care network uniquely positions us to be a regional and national leader in concussion care. Our Minds Matter: Improving Pediatric Concussion Care clinical program serves as the infrastructure for 1) a strong research program investigating the scientific foundation for concussion management and prevention and 2) an evidence-based outreach program that disseminates messages to key stakeholders in concussion management and prevention.
