Men’s rankings: Cabrini is No. 5 in USILA preseason poll for highest-ever position

From Press Release

With just 11 days until the Cabrini College men’s lacrosse team opens its 2013 schedule, the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) has released its 2013 Preseason Coaches Poll and Cabrini is ranked No. 5, the highest preseason position in the program’s history.

Earlier this year, Lacrosse Magazine and Inside Lacrosse listed the Blue and White as No. 6 in their respective preseason polls.

“It’s an honor for our program to be recognized with some of the programs atop the USILA preseason poll,” said Cabrini head coach Steve Colfer. “It’s a reflection of the hard work of student-athletes as well as the support from our entire college community. We hope we can live up the expectation as the end of the season.”

In 2012, the Cavaliers captured the school’s 12th Colonial States Athletic Conference championship and appeared in the program’s 11th NCAA Tournament. The Blue and White tied a school record with 17 wins and advanced to the National Quarterfinal round of the NCAA Tournament.

Colfer returns an experience squad, including 30 players who saw significant action last year. Ten of those returners garnered All-CSAC honors in 2012, including player of the Year senior Erick Zarzecki and Rookie of the Year sophomore Anthony DiNenno, along with four others who received First Team accolades.

In addition to a difficult slate of conference games, the Cavaliers will face one of the toughest nonconference schedules in the nation, facing six teams in the USILA Top 16.

Cabrini will visit No. 16 Dickinson College on Feb. 27 in its second game of the season. The Blue and White will then visit No. 9 Lynchburg College on March 2 and No. 16 Gettysburg on March 13. On March 16, No. 2 SUNY – Cortland will visit Edith Robb Dixon Field, just eight days before No. 13 Union College comes to campus. The Cavaliers will also step out of CSAC play to host No. 10 Denison College on April 6.

Defending NCAA Champion Salisbury University tops the USILA poll, while Stevenson University and Tufts University are ranked third and fourth, respectively.

The Blue and White will open the 2013 campaign on Saturday, February 23 when its hosts Haverford College. The game is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
