From Press Release

Doug Sage, first-year head men’s lacrosse coach at The University of Scranton, announced that senior defender Tim Cleary (Shrewsbury, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy), senior midfielder Dillon McInerney (Hawthorne, NJ/Bergen Catholic), senior attacker Taylor Nelson (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown East), and junior defender Ryan Saraceni (Lansdale, Pa./La Salle) will serve as captains for the upcoming 2013 season.

The Royals, coming off a 9-7 season that included a postseason berth in the Landmark Conference tournament, will open their 2013 campaign on Saturday, February 23, by hosting Farmingdale State at 1:00 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Field.

Nelson has also put up impressive statistics. He enters the 2013 season just seven points shy of becoming one of 21 players in Scranton history to score 100 points in a career. He finished second on the team in goals scored (28) and total points (41) and tied for the team-lead in game-winning goals (2). In 2011, he was named second-team all-Landmark Conference after leading the Royals in goals (31), total points (43), and shot attempts (101).

Saraceni has been a mainstay on the backline over the past two seasons, appearing in 32 games. During this span, he has been credited with 32 ground balls and 18 caused turnovers.

Last spring, Cleary became the first player in the program’s 26-year history to garner all-America honors by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA), earning honorable mention status after finishing second on the team in ground balls (56) and anchoring a defensive unit that held 10 opponents under 10 goals.

Recently, he was also named preseason second-team all-American by Inside Lacrosse magazine. He is also a two-time first-team all-Landmark Conference selection who has played in 46 games over the past four years.

McInerney has been a consistent scoring threat for the Royals over the past three seasons. In 39 career games, he has 42 goals and 13 assists for 55 total points, including a career-high 27 goals and had 12 assists for 39 total points last spring on his way to earning first-team all-Landmark Conference honors.
