Episcopal Academy junior attack-midfield Alex Silvera has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Columbia University and begin the admission process.

Alex Silvera log:

Alex Silvera (#9, Left)

High School: Episcopal Academy

Graduation Year: 2014

Position: Attack/Midfield

College Choice: Columbia

What will you major in/study? Undecided

Club Affiliation: Ultimate Goal

Lacrosse Honors: National tournament Philly Team 2012; 2011 Philly Showcase All-Star; Top of the Class All-Star; Helped lead Episcopal Academy to win the 2012 PAISSA State Championship; Two-time Maccabi Team Philly.

Why did you choose Columbia? “After a number of visits to Columbia I have fallen in love with the school. Coach (Liz) Kittleman, Coach (Courtney) Lubbe and Coach (Katie) Chrest have been incredible throughout my recruiting process. The team was very welcoming and the entire coaching staff has been supportive and encouraging. I am so excited to become part of Columbia’s growing program. My father and uncle attended Columbia, and I have grown up hearing about their incredible experiences there. It will be awesome to get to go to college in New York and to have all of Columbia’s outstanding opportunities available to me.”

Outlook for the season? “EA had a very successful season last year. We won the State Championship for our league and shared the Inter-Ac Championship Title. I think that this year’s team is even stronger. We have talented players returning as well as a lot of very strong underclassmen. We’ve set big goals for ourselves this season!”

Additional Comments: “The recruiting process has been long and arduous and I could not have been successful without support from my family and coaches. First I would like to thank my parents, brother and sister for driving me to countless camps and tournaments and for pushing me to be my best in both school and on the field.

“I want to thank coach Duck for coaching me through an incredible year of lacrosse and for being such a strong coach and mentor. Thanks to DJ for her constant help throughout my recruiting process and for always being so supportive and helpful. Thanks to my EA coach Vos Strache for being positive and encouraging all year! And thanks to all of my teammates at EA and Ultimate!!”
