Lehigh to be televised twice on ESPN Networks, including March 9 contest with Penn State

From Press Release

The Lehigh men’s lacrosse team will have a pair of games on the ESPN Family of Networks this season, as announced on Thursday. The Mountain Hawks will host UMass Mar. 20 on ESPNU (and WatchESPN) as part of the network’s Wednesday Men’s Lacrosse Game of the Week, which debuts this season. Lehigh’s Independence Classic contest on Mar. 9 against Penn State is also set for ESPN3.

In addition, Lehigh will appear on national television Apr. 6 when it hosts Colgate on CBS Sports Network.

The Mountain Hawks have never faced UMass, a storied program which is ranked 12th by Inside Lacrosse Face-Off Yearbook. The Minutemen posted an undefeated regular season campaign a season ago, ranked as high as #1 nationally, before falling to Colgate in the NCAA Tournament. UMass features Tewaaraton Award Finalist Will Manny, high school teammate of Lehigh senior Dante Fantoni.

Eleven days earlier, Lehigh will face intrastate rival Penn State at PPL Park in Chester, Pa. as part of the Whitman’s Sampler Independence Classic. That game is set for 5 p.m. following St. John’s vs. Syracuse (12 p.m.) and Villanova against Penn (2:30 p.m.). The Mountain Hawks won last year’s meeting against the Nittany Lions, 9-5.

This marks the second straight season the Mountain Hawks will appear on an ESPN Network as their NCAA Tournament Game vs. Maryland last May aired live on ESPNU.

Lehigh begins preseason practice this weekend in preparation for a highly-anticipated 2013 campaign which begins on Feb. 9 against Saint Joseph’s.
