HEADstrong Rivalry Games today: SCHA-Manheim Township is a key matchup

March 30, 2013 by Chris Goldberg

The HEADstrong Foundation’s 4th Annual Rivalry Games kick off today at 9 a.m. and will feature six boys’ lacrosse games at Widener University in an event to raise money in the fight against blood cancer.

One of the more intriguing games is at 1 p.m. when District 3 power Manheim Township (ranked No. 13 by Phillylacrosse.com) faces Springside Chestnut Hill Academy. Both teams are 4-0 and are eager to see where they stand against teams from out of their regions.

Manheim has already defeated District 1’s Garnet Valley (7-4) and District 11’s Emmaus (6-5). Springside Chestnut Hill is playing in the Inter-Ac League this year and has looked strong against its four non-league foes – Academy of the New Church, Roman Catholic, Plymouth White, marsh and Hun School – outscoring them, 54-11.

The Rivalry Games will conclude with a 7PM contest between Strath Haven and Delaware County Rival Interboro under the lights at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium. There is a $5.00 Admission per person, with all fans 5 years and under admitted free.

Community service and team building is at the heart of this philanthropic event. Each of the participating programs works to support the HEADstrong mission by selling awareness t-shirts and promoting blood cancer awareness at their respected institutions and in their local communities.

Additionally, HEADstrong Foundation will be premiering its new HEADstrong Awareness Trailer at the event as well as the latest in HEADstrong’s Awareness™ collection of merchandise and apparel. Fans are also encouraged to wear lime green, which is the color synonymous with the organizations fight against blood cancer.

Since its inception the HEADstrong Rivalry Games has been an overwhelming success, attended annually by over 3,000 supporters and has helped to generate over $200,000 to support HEADstrong’s Quality of Life Services and Programs.
