Girls’ lacrosse: Harriton tops Garnet Valley, Germantown Friends edges Friends’ Central

Caleigh Foust had four goals and an assist and Sabrina Tabasso contributed three goals and three assists while Katie Melvin added three goals and two assists Tuesday night as Harriton defeated host Garnet Valley, 13-8, in Central League girls’ lacrosse.

The third-ranked Rams (8-1) moved into a first-place tie with Radnor (which fell to Conestoga), Conestoga, Springfield-Delco and Haverford High at 4-1.

Harriton led, 10-3, at halftime. Jane Henderson added two goals and melina Avery made seven saves.
Ashley Pyle had four goals and Haley Warden two goals and an assist for Garnet Valley (5-3, 2-3).

Germantown Friends 11, Friends’ Central 10

Anna Bezahler and Annie Tyson each had three goals and Lauren Shinn made 13 saves in goal as the visiting Tigers (8-3) opened Friends School league play with a key win at Friends’ Central.

Grayson Melby and Greta Meyer each tallied two goals for GFS, which built an 11-7 lead and held on for the victory. Schuyler Nissen added a goal and an assist.

Friends’ Central, which got four goals from Emma Dahle, is 4-2 and 1-1 in the league.

Caroline Myran and Sarah Kane played standout defense for the Tigers while marking the top Friends’ Central scorers. Also, GFS defenders Katherine Walden, Katharine Cusick, Caryn Miller, and defensive midfielders Melby, Myran and Sophie Mercuris held FCS to their lowest total of the season.
