Recently the Central Bucks South girls’ lacrosse team volunteered its time to the Bucks County Children’s Advocacy Center.
The girls spent the evening planting 803 pinwheels in front of the Hartzville Fire Department in recognition of April as the National Child Abuse Prevention month. The Pinwheel Garden will be in place throughout the month.
The girls were joined by Leslie Slingsby, Director of the Bucks County Children’s Advocacy Center, Assistant District Attorney Matt Weintraub, Nancy Morgan, Bucks County Office of Children and Youth, Kareem Afzal, Zubaida Foundation and Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick.
Julie H. Dugery, Coordinator of Volunteers & Community Outreach, Network of Victim Assistance (NOVA) wishes to thank the CB South girls lacrosse team.
“The girls brought great energy and enthusiasm and did an awesome job! Many thanks to the girls for pitching in on this community project and also to parents who helped out with carpooling,” said Dugery. “The Bucks CAC and NOVA really appreciates the support from the CB SOUTH Girls LAX team, coaches and family members!”

The pinwheel is a perfect symbol for the bright future every child deserves. Three gardens will be planted around Bucks County in April 2013. Each garden will contain 803 pinwheels, which represent the number of brave adults who stood up and reported child abuse in Bucks County in 2012. The Children’s Advocacy Center hopes the sight of more than 800 bright spinning pinwheels will motivate people to become active participants in preventing child abuse. Since keeping children safe is a responsibility the whole community shares, this campaign will help move Bucks County one step closer to protecting its youngest citizens.
