Centennial (GA) High 2015 Zach Levy admitted it was special being an underdog from the South while claiming the King of the X championship today at the Boys Philly Showcase.

“It feels pretty good coming up from Georgia and beating all these northern kids,” said Levy. “They all think we’re (not that good) down south.”

Levy, a West Point commit, plays for LB3 Atlanta and does not have to worry about proving himself any more.

He competed Friday and was dominant at the X in the Philly Charity Showdown at Citizens Bank Park when LB3 toppled a loaded St. Augustine Prep (N.J), 14-5. Levy was again dominant in the morning session games and also was named to the Fab 40 team.

Before the Fab 40 Game, he reached the Final Four of the King of the X, but dropped his second bout to 2016 Sean Penna of Exeter (N.H.). He reached the finals and squared off with Penna in the best-of-three finals.

Levy dropped the first bout in the finals, but won the second to force a deciding third match. In that one he took the draw in just a second.

“I was more focused on what I was doing right,” Levy said. “I drew my wrist forward. The first one I messed up, but I just wanted to win.”

Was he nervous knowing all the fans, coaches (well over 125 attended the day’s events) and players were watching?
“I was at first, but after the first face-off I wasn’t nervous anymore,” he said.

Other King of the X semifinalists included Northport (N.Y.) 2016 Kyle Gallagher and Bullis School 9MD) 2016 Joseph Stein.
