Staff Report

Ben Winebrake collected four goals and two assists and Michael Sowers had three goals and an assist while Mike Rama had two goals and two assists as host Upper Dublin thumped Wissaghickon, 13-6, to take a two-game lead in the Suburban One American Conference race.

The Cardinals (9-1) won their ninth straight game and improved to 8-0 in the league, while the arch-rival Trojans fell to 5-2 (7-4 overall).

Upper Dublin led, 9-3, after three periods and stretched the advantage to 13-3.
Drew Potts added a goal and two assists and Ryan Siwinski had a goal and an assist while goalie Jack Deragon made nine saves and yielded just three goals.

“We played really well today,” said Upper Dublin coach J.P. Banks. “We thought we put together a really good game plan; that’s the easy part of coaching. The tougher part is getting the kids to execute it. They really stepped up and executed.

“The kids really limited the number of turnovers and made smart decisions.”

The Cards indeed can be classified as kids. They start four freshmen, three on defense. Today the defenders – Jack Rapine, Brian Stover and Henry Winebrake, along with junior long pole Tyler Heubach – played standout lacrosse. Also starting as a freshman is Sowers, who already has reached 50 points.

“We are a work in progress,” said Banks. “We play several other freshmen. We just want to keep improving.”

John Carrozza led the Trojans with three goals and an assist and Luke Gomez scored twice.
